
On Windows 10, you can choose a new image stored locally on your computer or in the cloud. However, you can always change this image to anything you want, even if you want to use something different than the one in your Microsoft account to make your experience more personal. If you’re using a local account on Windows 10, you’ll get a generic placeholder account picture. In addition, other people who have your Microsoft account contact information will also see this your account picture in their list. If you’re using a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 10, then the account picture you have set in that account will sync automatically to your computer.

I am on a free version of Microsoft Teams, which (to my knowledge) is not linked to a larger Office365 account.Accounts you create on Windows 10 get a default generic boring account picture. Since I have a profile picture obviously this worked somehow before, but seems impossible to change now. I've also encountered the exact same error if I merely try to remove the existing profile picture I have and go back to the generic colored text avatars (i.e. Please try again." Whenever I try with the iOS apps, I get the error "Error: We were unable to upload your image." Obviously neither is helpful to understand what I should do to fix. Whenever I try with the desktop or web app, I get the error " There was a problem saving the photo. I have also tried updating my profile name at the same time, which I saw recommended in one community answer.
